If you had been shocked by the news that the Timberwolves had fired coach Ryan Saunders, you were not alone. It seems even Karl-Anthony Towns was “shocked” when he heard about the firing, as he revealed that he heard about his personal coach being canned as he was having fun with some pizza along with his outdated man.
“I learned when y’all found out,” Towns stated, via The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski. “I was eating pizza with my father and the news came out and we were all shocked.”
Of course, anybody who has been following Minnesota the previous few years will not be all that shocked that Saunders is now not the staff’s coach. Saunders didn’t get the Timberwolves to the playoffs the final two seasons and this 12 months, the staff had the worst document within the league at 7-24.
Fortunately for Timberwolves followers, the staff’s underwhelming efficiency over the previous few years doesn’t have Towns planning an exit technique. Towns is at the moment within the second 12 months of his five-year, $158 million deal.
“I’m a very loyal guy to a fault,” Towns defined. “I would love to finish my career here in Minnesota. … I want to build something great here. I want to build a legacy in Minnesota.”
