Centre set to resume tourist visas after 1.5 years of suspension due to Covid

New Delhi: In a bid to enhance the financial system as each day COVID-19 circumstances within the nation have come down, the Central authorities is contemplating to resume issuing tourist visas very quickly, confirmed a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) official on Wednesday.

A senior MHA official confirmed that issues have been formalised and a gathering has been known as within the Ministry of Home Affairs that will likely be chaired by the Home Secretary on Thursday to talk about plans to resume tourist visas.


The official mentioned that it is going to be completed in a phased method and as per the feasibility, it is going to be open to all. The authorities is probably going to enable solely vaccinated folks to apply for tourist visas.

Tourist visas are suspended since March 2020, from the day the primary lockdown was introduced. Later, a number of classes of visas like enterprise, employment and others have been exempted however tourist visas remained suspended.

Many Gulf international locations have resumed tourist visas. Before the suspension of tourist visas, round 7-8 lakh vacationers used to come to India each month.
