Volkswagen hack: 3 million customers have had their information stolen

More than 3 million customers or buyers had at the very least primary contact information stolen. That information included telephone numbers, electronic mail addresses, postal mailing addresses and, in some instances, car identification numbers.

The firm has reached out to 90,000 individuals within the US — principally Audi customers or buyers — who had particularly delicate information taken within the breach. In most instances, that included driver’s license numbers and, in a small variety of instances, Social Security numbers, VW or Audi account numbers and dates of delivery. The firm is providing free credit score safety to those that had very delicate information taken.

The breach included information from individuals who had merely inquired about buying an Audi or VW car, in line with a press release from Volkswagen USA.

The information, which was stolen from an outdoor vendor that VW and Audi and a few of their sellers use, had been gathered between 2014 and 2019. The information had been collected and saved for advertising and marketing functions, in line with VW (VLKPF), and had been left in an unsecured file. VW didn’t title the seller.
