Egypt celebrates reopening 3,400-year-old Avenue of the Sphinxes

(CNN) — Egypt celebrated the reopening of the historic Avenue of Sphinxes in Luxor on Thursday night time, a 2.7-kilometer (1.7-mile) highway that connects two temple complexes in the space, the Temple of Luxor and the Temple of Karnak.

The occasion included a re-enactment of the Opet Festival, an annual historic celebration and carnival held by Egyptian dynasties in the presence of kings to have fun the River Nile and fertility.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi attended the festivities, which featured a march, an orchestra and dancers in pharaonic gown exhibiting historic practices throughout the Opet Festival.

The highway, also called Road of the Rams, dates again 3,400 years, Reuters experiences. However, it was first found in the late Nineteen Forties, in keeping with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities described the web site as the “largest open museum in the world,” and mentioned in a press release that the objective of the undertaking was to advertise tourism in Luxor and spotlight its numerous archaeological elements.
